SWAN submitted a brief to the Senate Legal and Constitutional Affairs Committee on Bill C-36: Protection of Communities and Exploited Persons Act.
The bill is the Government of Canada’s response to the historic Supreme Court decision Canada (AG) v Bedford (2013).
Our purpose in submitting this brief is two-fold:
- To remind the Committee of the stereotypes and racialized assumptions that continue to harm Asian women in sex work;
- To outline the risks Bill C-36 poses for Asian women in sex work as well as other immigrant, migrant and racialized sex workers.
