In January 2022, SWAN became a member of the Spectrum of Exploitation Research Committee, a 3-year project that brings together community partners, researchers, and persons with lived experience to explore solutions to supporting people who have, or may be at, increased risk for experiencing labour exploitation.
The project will pilot the Spectrum of Exploitation tool, an assessment and reflection tool, that provides a deeper understanding of systemic and individual factors that contribute to exploitation, ranging in degree from experiences of bias and racism, poor working conditions, labour violations, and human rights abuses.
SWAN collaborated with stakeholders in Ontario, including:
- the Centre for Research & Education on Violence Against Women & Children (CREVAWC),
- Western University,
- ANOVA,
- Sisters of St. Josephs,
- Collaborative Network to End Exploitation,
- Legal Assistance of Windsor,
- and Migrant Resource Centre Canada, among others.
Women and Gender Equality Canada funded this project.
