SUCCESS events calendar
SUCCESS was founded in 1973 to assist new Canadians of Chinese descent to overcome language and cultural barriers, S.U.C.C.E.S.S. has evolved into a multicultural, multi­service agency assisting people of many different cultural backgrounds at all stages of their Canadian experience. See their upcoming events on employment, English classes, citizenship exam, financial literacy, BC driver’s licence etc.

ISS Immigrant Women’s Peer Support Program
The program provides a safe and supportive space to help immigrant and refugee women:

  • break feelings of isolation
  • develop support networks
  • learn new skills
  • gather information and resources
  • develop or enhance leadership skills

 

The program has two components: peer support groups and training to facilitate these groups.
Non-English speakers welcome.

Burnaby Family Life – Immigrant Women’s Support Group 
Finding yourself feeling down and missing your relatives? Feeling lost in Canadian Society? Come and meet other immigrant woman and learn about your community, education, employment, healthcare etc. while sharing your stories in a safe and supportive environment. Practice your English and meet new friends.  Free childcare and snacks available.

DIVERSEcity – Women’s Health and Wellbeing Drop-in
This drop in group is available for eligible newcomer adult women interested in self care and well being. Through activities, guest speakers, and facilitated conversation women explore themes around health and well being and get the opportunity to connect with other newcomers.

Vancouver Lower Mainland Family Services Society – Support and Educational Groups
Offers individual counseling, advocacy and support at or out of the office and over the phone by bi-lingual/bi-cultural workers (Mandarin and Cantonese included). Group counseling and support, counseling to women experiencing abuse/violence, crisis intervention and referrals available.

Every 2nd and 4th Friday of each month from 10am to 12pm
Language: Mandarin, Cantonese
South Asian Women Support Group
Every first and third Thursday of each month from 10am to 12pm.

English Conversation Classes

ELSA Program

ELSA stands for English Language Services for Adults. The ELSA program provides basic and intermediate level English training for adult newcomers to Canada. ELSA is government-funded and is free to students.
If you are a permanent resident or new citizen, you can access the ELSA program.

If you do not have permanent residency or citizenship, you can take English classes at the following organizations:

Richmond

Richmond Women’s Resource Centre
Women only; Year round intake

Pacific Immigrant Resources Society
Offers classes on various levels of English instruction for women newcomers. Most classes are $30 per term (except classes at Collingwood are free). Child care available.
